Our History
The Alliance was registered as an Association in the State of Geneva, Switzerland on December 5th 2007, registration number CH-660-2785007-1.
As a coalition of advocacy groups, the World Hepatitis Alliance is a global voice for the 500 million people worldwide living with chronic viral hepatitis B or C.
The Alliance was governed by an Executive Board, consisting of a President, a representative of the World Health Organization with observer status and six board members, each representing one of the following world regions:
• Australasia
• Africa/Eastern Mediterranean
• Europe
• Latin America
• North America
• Western Pacific
The first official elections of the Alliance took place in December 2010; and for the first time the Alliance elected board members in Africa and South East Asia. Following the 2010 elections, each Regional Board Members represents one of the 6 world regions and the countries therein, as defined by the World Health Organization (the ‘WHO’):
• Africa
• Americas
• Eastern Mediterranean
• Europe
• South East Asia
• Western Pacific
