Macau’s plans for WHD 2011
According to Macau’s Health Bureau, government departments do not require tests for hepatitis B to be made by new applicants, but the security forces have not yet dropped that mandatory requirement.
Lam was speaking to reporters at a press conference to announce the activities of the World Hepatitis Day, which is going to be marked on July 28. It is the first time that the WHO carries out the World Hepatitis Day in July, aimed at increasing awareness and understanding of viral hepatitis and the diseases that it entails.
This year’s awareness campaign will target mainly banking and hotel industries, where most complaints have been lodged. The Health Bureau is also challenging people to write about the prejudices faced by hepatitis B infected people. Prizes for winners range from MOP 1,000 to 3,000.
Awareness leaflets will also be distributed by several organisations. Furthermore, the government is planning to carry out a study on the knowledge and behaviour of health services staff regarding hepatitis B.
